Women followed the Greek style wearing tunicas, chitons, and stollas as the main garment with the palla as the shawl, himation that went over it. In the beginning of the republic wool was the main fabric but as the empire expanded cotton, linen and silk became available and the rich wore sumptuous fabrics trimmed in gold and silver. Hairstyles and jewelry became ever more sophisticated and important.
